A Drop of Midnight, Jason Diakité’s stage version of his book, has been a cherished project for us since 2016. Me writing the music and Jason developing the script. In June of 2022 we had the chance to premiere the American version, at the Harlem Stage, New York City.
The play, directed by Jonathan McCrory, was warmly recieved by the Harlem audience. Us playing with the marvellous Rakiem Walker Project on stage, brought the story to life. For me, playing my music and touching souls in this significant cultural Mekka, it was probably Peak Life.
Harlem Stage did a very professional production. Having Claire Danes as host for the Premiere Night, Nona Hendryx showing up back stage and having the Chicago producers attending was just overwhelming. 2016 I was walking the streets of New York dwelling how to ever do work in that city’s theatres, and now we had our own oeuvre playing here, to the joy of us and audience alike.
